For Fitness Pros

Fitness Professionals possess a unique qualification to play a pivotal role in supporting the use of movement as an integral component of trauma healing.

In a field that directly engages with the human body, it is imperative that we no longer overlook the impact of our clients' diverse experiences on their relationship with movement.

The fitness industry, both historically and presently, has contributed to collective trauma with harmful practices, systemic racism and fatmisia, unattainable standards, and an oppressive perspective on what constitutes true health. Despite the fundamental principle of 'do no harm,' the industry falls short in adequately educating aspiring fitness professionals about the profound influence of trauma on movement.

I firmly believe that when working with bodies, one is inherently working with trauma. In a field that directly engages with the human body, it is imperative that we no longer overlook the impact of our clients' diverse experiences on their relationship with movement. By broadening our understanding of what it means to be a fitness professional, we can recognize that fitness professionals possess a unique qualification to play a pivotal role in supporting the use of movement as an integral component of trauma healing.

In partnership with Hope Ignited Training, we are excited to present two distinctive options designed to empower fitness professionals with knowledge about trauma, its intricate connection to movement, and the opportunity to actively contribute as members of a trauma intervention team.

*Please note, as discussions around "toxic fitness culture" and the harm the industry has caused become more and more popular, it is important to know the pioneers of these concepts: Ilya Parker (he/they) and Justice Roe Williams (he/him). If you are learning from them, please consider supporting the labor that goes into the vast content they have created.
